3 Unconventional Ways to Keep Your Car Cool this Summer

3 Unconventional Ways to Keep Your Car Cool this Summer

Staying cool is one of the most important things these days. OK, there are more important things, but it would be pressing to find someone who won't agree that getting into a hot car is highly inconvenient. Even dangerous [painful]. Including vehicle maintenance for summer, how to keep your car cool is a popular question during these hot Colorado summer months. Completely avoiding a vehicle from getting hot may be close-to-impossible but a few thoughtful actions could really make the difference between roasting alive and actually beating the heat.   1. Cover your hot bits   The initial shock (or injury) of getting into a hot car is oftentimes caused by infamous areas that end up burning hot--the door handles, leather seats, steering wheel, seat belt buckles and gearshift. To avoid getting burned, all you need is to do is simply ... read more

Community Auto named Winner of BBB Torch Awards for Ethics

Community Auto named Winner of BBB Torch Awards for Ethics

Receiving this award is a great honor to us for many reasons. One, the BBB is a nationally recognized organization with an incredible track record promoting and advancing ethical and sustainable business practices. More importantly, the BBB Torch Award for Ethics exemplifies the way in which Community Auto has served the Fort Collins community from the beginning. And it is these principles that are especially important in the business of auto repair. You may be surprised to learn that the most important thing when choosing an auto repair shop is trust. It’s not about price. In fact, repairs are always expensive when you’re buying things you don’t need. When you do not have auto repair & maintenance knowledge nor an understanding of the mechanical state of your vehicle, you place absolute trust in ... read more

The New Digital Automotive Inspection

The New Digital Automotive Inspection

While not quite there, our shop is well on the way towards being…paperless! Community Auto is always super excited to rock new technologies so I thought I’d share with you our exciting avant-garde, the Digital Automotive Inspection! Just like a physical exam from your doctor, technicians are trained to inspect a vehicle’s health in a bumper-to-bumper fashion, assessing the the health and safety of various parts and components and recording their findings in a way you’ll understand. They procedurally go over the vehicle, checking belts, hoses, fluids, tires, suspension, etc. and inspect for any issues or soon-to-be issues. In the past, technicians used paper forms to record their findings, leaving greasy fingerprints on the forms and hard-to-read sloppy handwriting (to the defense of mechanics everywhere, going directly from turning a wrench to writing with a little pen is dexterous!). But luckily for us ... read more

Uber Inspections

Uber Inspections

Are you considering driving for Uber? One of the requirements to drive for Uber (or Lyft) is to have an Uber Inspection once per year. Guess what? We can help! The inspection doesn't take very long and is very affordable. Just give us a call and schedule a time to either wait or drop off your vehicle. You’ll leave with everything you need to present to Uber and show your car is ready to drive. Once we complete your inspection, you’ll just need to scan or take a photo of it and submit the electronic version to your driver dashboard on Uber’s website. The number one tip to ensure your vehicle is Uber-ready? 1. Keep up on scheduled maintenance When your vehicle is in full-use, it is especially important to keep up with scheduled maintenance including oil changes and fluid flushes. Consider oil changes as a doctor’s physical on your car. A highly trained mechanic will be able to catch any issues that could lead to breakdowns and takes the job ... read more

Used Oil Filter Recycling

Used Oil Filter Recycling

Used oil filters are a big NO NO for landfills. Since they contain two non-renewable resources, steel and oil, it is imperative that they be recycled. Steel is the number one recycled material in North America, which is good, because it is one of the only materials that can be recycled without downgrading its integrity. Recycled steel is used to make cars, cans, appliances, and construction materials. The Steel Recycling Institute estimates that if all the oil filters sold annually in the United States were recycled, enough steel would be recovered to build 16 new stadiums the size of Atlanta’s Olympic Stadium–that’s 160,000 tons of steel If you service your own vehicle’s oil–great! Maintaining your vehicle offers a great sense of empowerment and helps you be in control of your transportation needs. But what are you doi ... read more
